New designs were introduced in honor of the 35th anniversary of the American Golden Eagles.
Thus, for the first time since their introduction in 1986, the gold and silver eagles will receive an updated design in mid-2021.
Obverse: the coin features Lady Liberty with flowing hair, a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left hand, taken from Auguste Saint-Gaudens' famous Gold Double Eagle design. The Type 2 design includes added details from the original bronze casting to enhance this popular design.
Reverse: close-up portrait of the eagle, designed by Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) designer Jennie Norris. She created the new gold coin design, which was engraved by Mint medalist Renata Gordon.
First authorized by Congress in 1986, the American Eagle gold coin series quickly became one of the most popular coins in the world. These coins are the first gold coins sponsored by the United States government specifically for investment purposes. They feature artistic patriotic designs, with the obverse side modeled after Saint Gaudens' design, which was introduced for the $20 Double Eagle coin in 1907. All American Gold Eagle coins are made from .9167 fine gold, with copper and silver added to the gold content to improve the wear characteristics and increase the durability of these coins.
All gold coins are shipped in protective capsules or in the original tubes (when quantities greater than 1/2 the tube capacity are ordered).
The year of mintage changes according to the current offer.
