Quokkas are kangaroo-like marsupials found mainly in the south-western region of Western Australia, particularly on Rottnest Island, an idyllic spot 18 kilometres off the coast near Perth. Hairy quokkas are about the same size as domestic cats, and are extremely sociable animals blessed with cute, smiley faces and highly photogenic looks.
The coin depicts two quokkas at a watering hole with nearby nettles on Rottnest Island. The design features the inscription "QUOKKA" and the mint mark "P" of The Perth Mint.
The obverse features a likeness of Queen Elizabeth II with the weight and fineness of the coin, the monetary denomination and the date 2022.
