Quokkas are kangaroo-like marsupials found mainly in the south-western region of Western Australia, particularly on Rottnest Island, an idyllic spot 18 kilometres off the coast near Perth. Hairy quokkas are about the same size as domestic cats, and are extremely sociable animals blessed with cute, smiley faces and highly photogenic looks.
The coin depicts a happy Quokkas family at a beachside location with a lighthouse and vegetation symbolizing their home on Rottnest Island. Included in the design is the inscription ‘QUOKKA’ and the mint mark "P125" marking the 125th anniversary of the Perth Mint.
The obverse of the coin shows an effigy by Dan Thorne of His Majesty King Charles III and the monetary denomination.
